What makes these puzzles large print
- Big letters. Grid letters print at roughly 24 to 30 points, more than twice the size you find in most puzzle books, and the word list prints at 16 points.
- Small grids, fewer words. Each puzzle is 10 × 10 to 12 × 12 with about 12 words, so the page never feels crowded.
- A typeface made for low vision. Letters are set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, designed by the Braille Institute so that look-alike characters stay easy to tell apart.
- Friendly directions. Words run across, down and diagonally, but never backwards.
- A clean page. Black letters on white with no clutter, a tick box beside every word, and the answer key on its own page.
Who large print word searches are for
Large print puzzles suit anyone who finds standard puzzle books a strain: older adults, people with low vision or tired eyes, and early readers who are still getting used to small print. They are a favorite in senior centers, libraries and activity programs because they are easy to hand out and quick to explain, and the themes here, from Thanksgiving to birds and baking, give a group something to chat about while they solve.
Printing tips
- Choose “Actual size” or 100% in the print dialog so the letters aren’t shrunk to fit.
- Pick the darkest or “best” print quality for crisp, high-contrast letters.
- Offer a highlighter or a thick felt-tip pen. Circling words is easier to see than a pencil line.
- Want a smaller version for a clipboard? Print at 85% and the letters are still larger than a regular puzzle book.
Make your own large print word search
Use family names, a favorite hobby or a club’s inside jokes. The maker has a large print setting that enlarges the title, letters and word list on the printout. For the biggest letters, pick a custom size of 8 × 8 to 10 × 10.

Large print word search FAQ
How big are the letters in these large print word searches?
Printed on US Letter or A4, the grid letters are set at roughly 24 to 30 points, depending on the grid size. That is more than twice the size of the letters in a typical puzzle book. The word list is printed at 16 points.
Are these large print puzzles free to print?
Yes. All 99 large print puzzles are free to print as many times as you like for personal use, family, classrooms, libraries, senior centers and activity groups. No sign-up is needed.
Can I make the letters even bigger?
Yes. Open the word search maker with large print turned on, choose a custom size of 8 × 8 or 9 × 9 under Grid size, and use 6 to 8 short words. Fewer columns means each letter gets more room on the page.
Does every puzzle on the site have a large print version?
Yes. Every themed puzzle has four versions: Easy, Medium, Hard and Large print. The large print version uses the 12 most familiar words from the theme on a 10 × 10 to 12 × 12 grid, and prints with bigger letters and a bigger word list.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Press Print on any puzzle and keep “Add an answer key page” ticked. The key prints on its own page, in the same large print, with every word highlighted.
Can I play these on a tablet instead of printing?
Yes. Open any puzzle below and it starts on its large print version. The grid grows to fit your screen, and the full screen button makes it larger still. Tap the first and last letters of a word to select it.
